If you see requests (pings/hits) from servers originating from us hitting your website or server, and you do not recognize the source there can be a couple of different explanations.
The most common reasons (9 times out of 10) why you are seeing requests from our servers that you don't recognize are the following:
- Someone in your company (either a current or previous colleague) has set up an account with Pingdom and is monitoring your services
- An affiliated company, like a hosting company, web design firm, etc. has set up monitoring for your website
- You set it up yourself in the past and forgot about it
- The person or company who owned the domain before you set up monitoring for the domain and forgot to remove it
Since most of the internet is an open space where anyone can visit any website, this is also the case with website availability monitoring. It isn't illegal to monitor someone's website without their consent, just like it isn't illegal for someone to visit your website in a browser. However, if you do not want the monitoring to continue we can of course help you out if you reach out to us here.
